Database Overview

The AMPTE Database held at the UK Coordinated Data Handling Facility for Solar Terrestrial Physics (CDHF for STP) at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory holds spin resolution ($\sim$ 5 second) data from the AMPTE UKS and IRM spacecraft. The data is derived from data originally deposited in the Geophysical Data Facility, although an ongoing programme of data regeneration will progressively up-date some of the data. Additionally, the CDHF is building a database of higher resolution AMPTE UKS and IRM data based on a combination of raw data reduction software running at the CDHF and products deposited there by the instrument teams.

The spin-averaged data have been stored as CDF files compliant with the design specification for the Cluster Prime Parameters and are therefore referred to as AMPTE Prime Parameters. These files comply with ISTP guidelines for CDF files.

The present document provides a description of the AMPTE mission, instrumentation, and data. Scientists wishing to use the data should also consult the following documents, all of which are accessible at http://www.space-plasma.qmw.ac.uk/CDHF :

Rules of Use
A statement concerning the rights of access, publishability, etc., for the data. This also includes a list of contact addresses for the instrument teams.
Data Caveats
An active list of known problems, bugs, etc., which might affect the utility of the data for some scientific studies.
Potential users are strongly urged to consult these documents prior to using the data, and to contact the relevant PI teams at that time. The setting up of an IRM database, including both Prime Parameter and high resolution data, has been generously supported by the IRM team at the Max-Planck-Institut für Extraterrestrische Physik, Garching; the UKS databases have been built with the collaboration of the UK AMPTE teams.
