Postgraduate Teaching in the Space and Atmospheric Physics Group
Imperial College London
2021/2022
During the first term of each academic year we run a course of postgraduate (PG) lectures within the group. This PG teaching is designed to give our students a better grasp of the various research themes in which we are active, including a clear grasp of the key underlying physics. Attendance of these sessions is compulsory for all new PhD students, and we welcome visiting students from our collaborator departments and institutions.
During consecutive weeks in the first term, one or more members of staff will lecture on a given topic, or family of topics. Nominally, on the Monday and on the Tuesday there will be a lecture between 14:00 and 15:00. The lecturer(s) will then set some form of assessment (e.g., they may provide a list of questions to consider), and on each Friday there will be a problem-solving session, also between 14:00 and 15:00. Attendance will be recorded for all sessions, with no distinction between "space" and "atmospheric" students.
PLEASE NOTE: Sessions this year will either be hybrid, with a mixture of in-person and remote participants, or fully remote. Remote participation will always be via Microsoft Teams. Please see the email you will receive from me each week that will confirm arrangements for the following week, including the room booked for each hybrid session.
Other members of the group are welcome to join any of the sessions. Please contact me (Adam Masters) if you are (or represent) an external student who would be interested in joining as well. I will send regular emails that contain joining instructions to the student cohort as the term progresses, and this webpage will be kept up to date with course information and resources.
